The laboratory was founded in 2007 by Prof. PhD, DSc B. Sandalski. From 2011 to 2020, the laboratory was headed by Prof. PhD M. Vicheva. At the moment, the head of the laboratory is Assoc. Prof. PhD G. Stanchev. Its activity is directly related to the scientific specialty "Standardization", as well as with the master's degree "Technical Legislation and Quality Management" at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering.
The main directions are: standardization; accreditation and certification; technical legislation and conformity assessment; assessment of product safety; technical legislation in major sectors; standardization of management systems.
The scientific specialty "Standardization" was accredited in 2010 and includes individual training and research work on current scientific and applied tasks in the field of standardization. The current regulatory documents in the field of European technical legislation, modern information technologies, as well as original software products are applied. Access to certain sets of standards from the Bulgarian institute for standardization’s information system is provided. Research issues related to European technical legislation, implementation of product safety requirements, equipment development, specialized software, procedures, etc. are solved. Dissertation themes are formulated on real problems derived from the needs of the business. Thus, PhD students develop solutions that are necessary for the practice, which help the Bulgarian industry to compete in the free European market.
Technical legislation - study of regulatory requirements for products, incl. harmonized standards for placing them on the EU single market.
Consultation on conformity assessment of products (safety and quality).
Preparation of the product for conformity assessment and certification.
Consultations on proving the safety of a product and carrying out the necessary activities for affixing the CE marking.
Consultation and development of the Technical Documentation ("Technical file") of the product and drawing up the "Declaration of Conformity".
Consultation for development of quality management systems, environment, health and safety at work, information security.
The laboratory provides information and consulting services to the established Information Center between TU - Sofia and Bulgarian institute for standardization with controlled free access for lecturers and students to the electronic fund of packages of Bulgarian standards and communicates with the Bulgarian Institute for Standardization on updating and completing the database with standards.
For the last years, four doctoral theses on the field of "Standardization" have been completed and four dissertation papers have been defended.
