About the Lab

Research and Development Laboratory “Material Handling Equipment” with sectors “Lifts and Cableways” and “Lifting equipment” (R&D “MHE”) at the Department “Logistics, Material Handling and Construction Equipment” of Faculty of Mechanical Engineering of the Technical University - Sofia is specialized in the field of material handling machines and in particular in the areas of lifts (elevators), cableways (ropeways), and lifting equipment.

The main activity of the laboratory is conducting laboratory exercises for students and PhD students from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at TU-Sofia, it also conducts scientific and scientific-applied research in the field of material handling equipment. In addition, for more than 15 years it has been part of a European Notified Body for conformity assessment of lifts and safety devices for lifts "LIFT Certificate TU-Sofia" with identification number 2201, part of "TU-Sofia-Technologies" Ltd. Over the years of experience "LIFT Certificate TU-Sofia" has established itself on the Bulgarian as well as on the international market as a Notified Body offering quality and a high level of professionalism in the execution of the services offered.

The laboratory has more than 10 specialized stands for research and testing of safety devices of modern lifts, as well as mobile and stationary computer systems for measuring dynamic parameters necessary for conducting laboratory exercises and tests according to the applicable European Directives and Standards in the conformity assessment.

Activities

The main laboratory activities are:

conducting laboratory exercises in the following disciplines: Material Handling Equipment for Mechanical Engineering-Bachelor (B) specialty, Material Handling Equipment - Part 1 and Part 2 and Logistics of Material Handling and Warehouse Processes for Logistics Engineering – B specialty, Transport of People - for Logistics Engineering specialty – Master;

carrying out the measurements and tests according to the applicable European Directives and Standards in the field of lift constructions and cableways;
design and manufacturing of overload devices for lifts;
participation in the conduct of license courses for "Lifting equipment mechanics", “Cableway operators” and “Overhead and gantry crane operators".
